Activated Alumina


Activated alumina, also known as activated bauxite, is called Activated alumina in English. Alumina used in catalysts is usually called "active alumina". It is a porous, highly dispersed solid material with a large surface area. Its microporous surface has the characteristics required by catalysis, such as adsorption performance, surface activity, excellent thermal stability, etc., so it is widely used as a catalyst and catalyst carrier for chemical reactions. The spherical activated alumina pressure swing oil adsorbent is a white spherical porous particle. The particle size of activated alumina is uniform, the surface is smooth, the mechanical strength is large, and the hygroscopicity is strong. After absorbing water, it does not swell or crack and remains in its original state. It is non-toxic, odorless, and insoluble in water and ethanol. Activated alumina is a highly efficient desiccant for deep drying of trace water, which is suitable for heatless regeneration devices.

Aluminum oxide, commonly known as bauxite, has the chemical formula Al2O3. White powder, density 3.9 4.0g/cm3, melting point 2050 , boiling point 2980 . It is insoluble in water and can slowly dissolve in concentrated sulfuric acid. It can be used to refine aluminum metal, as well as raw materials for making crucibles, porcelain, refractory materials and artificial gemstones. The alumina used as adsorbent, catalyst and catalyst carrier is called "active alumina". It has the characteristics of porosity, high dispersion and large specific surface area, and is widely used in petrochemical, fine chemical, biological and pharmaceutical fields.

Activated alumina is generally prepared by heating and dehydration of aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide, also known as hydrated alumina, has a chemical composition of Al2O3 · nH2O. It can be divided into alumina trihydrate and alumina monohydrate according to the amount of crystal water contained. After aluminum hydroxide is heated and dehydrated γ- Al2O3It is commonly referred to as activated alumina.   

Activated alumina belongs to the category of chemical alumina, which is mainly used as adsorbent, water purifying agent, catalyst and catalyst carrier. Activated alumina has selective adsorption ability for gas, steam and some liquid moisture. After saturated adsorption, the water can be removed by heating at about 175~315 to revive. Adsorption and reactivation can be carried out many times. In addition to being used as a desiccant, it can also absorb lubricating oil vapor from polluted oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, natural gas, etc. It can also be used as catalyst, catalyst carrier and chromatographic analysis carrier. It can be used as a fluoride remover for drinking water with high fluoride (large fluoride removal capacity), a fluoride remover for circulating alkanes in the production of alkyl benzene, a deacidification regenerant for transformer oil, a gas drying agent for oxygen production industry, textile industry, electronic industry, a drying agent for automatic instrument air, a drying agent and a purifying agent (dew point up to - 40 ) for chemical fertilizer, petrochemical drying and other industries, and a pressure swing adsorption dew point up to - 55 for air separation industry. It is an efficient desiccant for deep drying of trace water. It is very suitable for heatless regeneration devices.
